Sexual Abuse is the kind of abuse inmates are most scared to talk about. It is most common in female prisons because the females have to depend on the guards for most of their necessities it makes them vulnerable subjects and the guards (often males) take advantage of them. This abuse is more like sexual assault but instead of people making a big fuss out of it, it often goes unnoticed. If a prisoner wants to do something about it they often cant because the same people who are keeping an eye on them are the same ones who are abusing them, so they will not let them escape the sexual abuse. In the United States 1 in every 10 prisoner claims to being sexually abused while in prison, this may seem some what of a small percentage but think of it this way if you where raped would you want everyone to know about it? This could just be the percentage of prisoners who have the courage to admit to being sexually abused. In the video below we take a look at a case where 10 prisoners testify against the Michigan Prison System for being sexually assaulted while incarcerated.
This next video shows us how vast sexual abuse can be and how it doesn’t just happen to women but also to men, and juveniles.
This next video is a perfect example
of what happens to guards if they are caught abusing inmates. In this case Letica
Dia Stagg a prison guard in James City, was found guilty of sexually abusing an
inmate but she receives no jail time, just a $25 fee and is now labeled a
felon.
